Over and over. But when the blood started to blur my vision I had to tell myself it was just rain. Pleasant ruby colored rain, with an odd coppery smell. I pushed on regardless and kept inching towards the glowing light. Soon I could see no more because the ruby turned to crimson and yet, the light grew brighter and ever closer.
With a last effort I flapped my torn wings one more time and yet, I did not go any further.
The windshield wipers twitched and I fell to the side of the car.
With my feet in the air, I could finally see.
